AFRICA, ELSEWHERE

Amman, Jordan. 2019

I travelled to Jordan to photograph a street art festival. Instead, in Amman, I found another chapter of my relationship with Africa.

Through my encounters with the Sudanese refugee community, whose stories remained largely overlooked in a country where public attention was mostly focused on the Syrian crisis, I began what I imagined as a documentary project.

I was welcomed into everyday rituals, conversations and moments of care that gradually transformed the project itself.

Looking back, I see it as a transitional body of work: the language was still that of reportage, but the questions had already begun to shift.

Rather than a completed investigation, these photographs trace an early attempt to understand encounter, visibility, and the everyday lives that continue within displacement.
